Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Bridges

Question: How does tooth loss impact oral health?

Answer: When you lose a tooth, then misalignment can occur as the surrounding teeth drift from position. With misalignment comes a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The pressure tooth loss places on the jaw can lead to the onset of TMJ disorder and bruxism. Finally, tooth loss can cause the body to stop sending doses of calcium and phosphorus to the jawbone around the lost teeth, causing the bone tissue to dissolve.

Question: How do you create a bridge?

Answer: We will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap, removing the structure to make room for the prosthetic. We will then take detailed impressions, which are will be used to design and create the prosthetic. Once done, the new bridge will consist of the replacement teeth, or pontics, with crowns attached to either side. The crowns will sit on the prepared teeth, securing the new ones.

Question: Will my new teeth look natural?

Answer: Yes! We will use either ceramic or zirconia for the teeth and crowns, ensuring they are both strong and stain-resistant. We can also color-match them to ensure they blend with your smile.

Question: Can you support them with dental implants?

Answer: Yes! In some cases, we can support a bridge with dental implants, providing greater security and stimulating the growth of jawbone tissue. If you have any questions about replacing missing teeth, then please contact our office today.
