Many of the most successful video games were created in Texas, including: DoomUltimaWing CommanderThe SimsHalf-Life, and Call of Duty. The Pong to Pokémon: The Evolution of Electronic Gaming exhibition will focus on the technological and cultural scope of video games, as well as Texas’ link to one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The exhibition will display artifacts that highlight the combination of technology, art, music, and design that video games bring together. The exhibition will feature innovators, entrepreneurs, game developers, and player community leaders from Texas. Along with the exhibit, there will be several playable game displays that are free to play with entry. There will be classic, text-based games used in early computers like Oregon Trail. Arcade favorites like Centipede and Ms. PacMan will also be available to play, as well as games from vintage home consoles, Atari 2600, Nintendo NES, and Sega Genesis. Modern games like Angry Birds and Minecraft will also be featured. This exhibition is great for learning about and interacting with the past 50 years of gaming, or for getting a peak at what the future of video games looks like.
